You can take the hard work out of the annual spring clean by making a start now…

It’s almost that time of year when thoughts turn to spring cleaning, which as we all know can be a mammoth task. Instead of letting it become a weekend-long endeavour that you’ll dread between now and then, why not make a start on the little jobs now? It will feel far less daunting if you do.

If you aim to complete one of the tasks every other week, hopefully it won’t feel too overwhelming. And the big spring clean itself will be done in a flash!

Clothing clear-out

Be honest, how much of your wardrobe do you actually wear? Most of us probably have long-forgotten items still with their tags attached. Clear out the clutter and you’ll make it easier to see the clothes you decide to keep and actually wear.

Start by taking everything out of the wardrobe, and then asking yourself whether you’ll wear it before putting it back. If you don’t remember wearing it in the past year, sling it. The same goes for anything that doesn’t fit, or needs any repairs that you’ll never get round to doing.

Divide the things you’re getting rid of into what you can donate to charity, and what is too ripped or stained to be of any use. The latter can be recycled – most supermarkets will have a textile bank you can drop them in.

Wash your donations using Bold 3in1 Pods and they’ll be clean, fresh and soft for their new owners. And thanks to the in-built fabric softener, you won’t even need to iron them!

Appliance overhaul

Cleaning the oven and clearing out the fridge are the biggest chores when spring cleaning the kitchen. Blitz them now, and it’ll make the spring clean an absolute doddle.

You can make easy work of the hard bit, too. For a sparkling clean fridge and oven shelves, all you need is Fairy to get rid of food spills and burnt-on grease. Chuck them in the sink with a good squirt of Fairy, leave to soak and you’ll be able to get rid of even the most encrusted grime without too much scrubbing.

Fancy floors

A simple way to cut down on the time it takes for the big spring clean is to divide and conquer. Save your carpeted areas but tackle any wooden and laminate flooring now, and you’ll save yourself a big chunk of time.

You’re probably totally on top of the visible floor areas already, so now is the time to shift the furniture and get into all those nooks and crannies that rarely see the light of day. After sweeping or vacuuming away dirt, use Flash Floor Liquid for a truly sparkling finish and a lovely fresh smell.

Shower saviour

The bathroom would be relatively quick and easy, if it weren’t for the twin terrors of black mould and limescale. The former is particularly common at this time of year when it’s often too cold to keep a window open while showering, and the latter is exacerbated if you live in a hard-water area.

The good news is both can be tackled easily. For stubborn limescale, as you probably know, Viakal is your friend. Simply spray and leave it to do its magic before rinsing away. For taps, you can pour some into a plastic container and attach it with string so it doesn’t drip away before it gets to work.

A simple DIY solution to black mould is to put one-part bleach to two-parts water into a spray bottle and spritz the affected area. Allow to dry and rinse away, repeating until the mould is gone.
