Not all floors are created equal – in fact, different surfaces require different cleaning techniques to get the best results. Here are a few tips on the most effective ways to clean common types of flooring.

Hardwood floors

Sweep before you mop
Clearing the way of any excess dust and hair will make for smooth sailing (or mopping, in this case). You should try to sweep your wood floors at least once a week to help prevent too much build-up.

Prevent damage
You shouldn’t wet mop hardwood floors, as it can cause water damage and potentially even rot. Instead, floor wipes are a good option – but mean you have to get down on your hands and knees to clean – and then attempt to get back up again!

Instead, the new Flash Speedmop has cloths that are 2 x thicker and wetter than regular floor wipes, but are safe to use on finished wooden floors. So you can stand up to dirt, and give your floors a powerful clean without damaging them.

Go with the grain
Be sure to mop with and not against the natural grain of the wood, as this will help ensure the longevity of your hardwood floors.

Laminate flooring

Say goodbye to scratches
If moving furniture when cleaning your laminate floor, be careful to lift it instead of dragging it to avoid scratching and abrasions. Also, avoid using anything abrasive to clean it, such as steel wool or scouring pads, as this could lead to scratches too.

Clean without the damage
Again, mopping laminate floors can cause damage, as too much water can cause the laminate to swell and warp.

Instead, bust out the Flash Powermop, which can power through grime with just enough cleaning solution and moisture, without damaging your laminate.

Tiled floors

Quick action is key
Clean up spills as quickly as possible so your tile grout won’t stain.

Be careful not to scratch the surface
Take precautions when moving heavy objects across a ceramic tile floor. Lifting and gently lowering furniture will help prevent cracking or scratches. Also don’t use steel wool, scouring powders, or other abrasives that can scratch the finish of your ceramic tile.

Save precious time
You can clean floor tiles with a mop and bucket, but it’s so much hassle! The heavy bucket of water and smelly mop make this task pretty laborious – and then there’s the waiting time while the floors dry.

For a speedy clean, the new-and-improved Flash Powermop is two times faster than a mop-and-bucket clean. The pads absorb and lock away dirt and grime, and are safe to use on any surfaces, including finished wood*. Light and easy to use, the Speedmop is perfect for your everyday floor clean.

* Don’t use Speedmop and Powermop on unfinished floors, waxed/oiled wooden boards or carpets, as they may be water sensitive.

Always down on my knees washing the floors so this sounds perfect for me. Always use Flash cleaners around the house as they work well and leave a nice scent.

I tend to find the Kitchen is a high use place and the floor often needs wiping. I need something quick & easy. I use a microfiber mop, flat headed which is good as I just wash the microfibre head cover and put a fresh one on. Sometimes I hoover I have a tiled floor. I would love to try out the new flash power mop -light and easy, can be used on multi floor surfaces and drys fast. This would be very handy indeed!

Clean it up straight away

My dog is sometimes too fast when I let him back in from being outside. He likes to paint my wooden floors with his muddy paws. I use a square sponge mop and attach a large floor wipe with 2 elastic bands as a quick fix to clean up straight away. Works for other spillages too.

I use a mop but I wouldn’t say this is the most effective way. The flash powrcleaner looks great and I would love to try one of these.
