Be the life and soul – without worrying about your dentures

responsive

If party season has you worrying about speaking with your partial or full dentures, don’t worry. Here are four ways to make sure you enjoy the small talk without those big fears.

It’s the season of tinsel, tipples and plenty of chit-chat at parties and family gatherings – normally one of the most special times of year. But if you’re one of the 15 million people in Britain with partial or full dentures, you might be dreading making small talk. Will your dentures click or whistle? Will they feel loose and make you slur your speech? (Rather than it being because of too much party punch!)

Here are four steps you can take to make sure you feel confident speaking with your partial or full dentures – so you really can be the life and soul of the party.

1. Practice makes perfect

It’s completely normal to have difficulty when you first get your partial or full dentures. So it makes sense to practice speaking in private first. Try making it interesting – and challenging – by reading out your favourite poems. If you can get your chops round Ozymandius you’ll be fine talking Strictly round the Christmas dinner table!

2. Have a bite

If your dentures aren’t properly in place, you might find they whistle a bit when you speak. So bite down on them to secure them in place – luckily Christmas parties usually mean canapés, so you don’t need to make a ‘thing’ of it when you’re in public. Just grab a sausage roll and munch away till they feel comfortable!

3. Take your time

If you speak too quickly, your dentures could make a clicking noise, so slow down a little bit when you’re talking. You might feel like it’s noticeable, but most other people won’t realise – they’ll just think you seem nice and relaxed!

4. Choose the right adhesive

The most important step you can take is to choose a powerful and secure adhesive to keep your dentures in place all day long. Fixodent PLUS Adhesive Cream has a strong hold throughout the day, protects against food particles getting under your dentures, and also keeps your breath fresh for up to six hours, with its antibacterial action.

That means you’ll soon have the confidence to chat away at any social occasion – and you could find you forget you’re even wearing dentures.
