You don't need good genes for great skin, say scientists

While DNA determines much about us, Olay scientists have discovered that, when it comes to younger-looking skin, the power is in your hands.

While DNA determines much about us, Olay scientists have discovered that, when it comes to younger-looking skin, the power is in your hands.

It’s the eternal debate: nature or nurture? But, when it comes to how well your skin ages, a new scientific study has finally found which one comes out on top.

Olay scientists have discovered that you don’t need good genes to have youthful-looking skin – it’s how you treat your skin that matters most.1

According to a study by the leading skincare brand, eight per cent of women are “exceptional skin agers”, meaning they have skin that looks at least 10 years younger than their actual age.2

But why? Were they just dipped in a good gene pool? Or did they nurture their skin in a way that helped keep it young?

Olay wanted to find out, so they partnered with personal genetics company 23andMe to analyse the lifestyle data of more than 150,000 women. The study found that external factors such as UV exposure and skin hydration are much more important than genetics when it comes to skin ageing1 – so your skin’s future is much more in your hands than you might think.

Informed by these findings, Olay has re-engineered the powerful formulas of its key Regenerist and Total Effects products. They now include even more scientifically proven ingredients that can help your skin look and behave younger, so you too can be in that eight per cent, no matter what your DNA.

So if you’re dealing with signs of ageing skin, read on to find out which new Olay formula would work for you.

If your skin is starting to sag…

Already a force in firmness thanks to its age-defying Amino-Peptides complex and hyaluronic acid, which helps draw water into the skin to keep it hydrated and supple, Olay has added Carob Seed extract to its Olay Regenerist 3 Point Super Age Defying Cream. The new ingredient provides hydration and renewal benefits to firm and lift, resulting in younger-looking skin.

If your skin tone is dull and uneven…

With age, slow-down in cell turnover and imbalances in melanin production can lead to dullness, loss of radiance and hyper-pigmentation in the skin.

Olay Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream is a fast-absorbing moisturiser that hydrates and illuminates the skin.

And with the new addition of a tone-perfecting di-peptide, Carnosine, it’s now even better at helping to reduce the visible appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark spots, so you will have a clearer, more balanced skin tone, leaving you glowing.

If you have fine lines and wrinkles…

Olay Total Effects Day Moisturiser SPF15 is already a powerhouse in anti-ageing thanks to its key ingredient of Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, which is proven to strengthen the skin barrier and combat fine lines and wrinkles.

And now the oil-free, fast-absorbing moisturiser has received a turbo-boost, with 50% more Vitamin E and double the amount of green tea extract. The new re-engineered formula enhances your skin’s own natural self-renewal process, helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and provides protection against free radical damage.
