With so many right and wrong ways to look after skin, we’ve gone back to basics to update your beauty routine to give your skin a youthful boost

Apply your moisturiser properly

Watch our video below to learn how to apply your moisturiser properly to achieve smoother, younger-looking skin.

Ditch the rich creams

A thicker cream won’t give your skin more moisture. In fact, richer creams can actually trap dead cells so skin is left dull. Instead, layering skin with serums under moisturiser will boost hydration levels. Serums are light and easily absorbed but have super-concentrated youth-boosting ingredients.

Deep clean your skin

Exfoliating in winter causes a boost of cell renewal so new cells can move to the surface making your skin glow. Exfoliation does weaken your skin’s barrier, but as long as you moisturise regularly and use a weekly hydrating mask, you’ll keep it strong. Use Olay Total Effects Featherweight Moisturiser with SPF15, as it fights the seven signs of ageing in just one step.

Beauty’s best-kept secret

Dry skin on your face can be a problem as we age. Oils have become an anti-ageing wonder as they’re more concentrated than serums and formulated for different skin types. They hydrate, plump and balance skin without clogging pores. A little goes a long way, but if you're dubious of using face oils, ease yourself in slowly by applying small dabs to dry patches in need of an extra boost, or blend a few drops in with your moisturising cream so you'll reap the benefits without the oily texture.

All in the eyes

When moisturising around your eyes, use your ring finger as it has the lightest touch and is least likely to pull at your skin. Start at the inner corner, dot the cream from just below your lashes to the outer corner of your orbital bone, patting it into your skin.

Moisturising myth

Applying moisturiser when skin is damp to trap in moisture is a beauty myth. Moisturiser is diluted this way, so the hydrating effects are less than intended, and you won’t reap the true benefits. Blot skin dry before using, then smooth on Olay Regenerist SPF30, a lightweight SPF formula you won’t even notice on your face, but delivers a firmer-looking skin that you definitely will!

Sleeping beauty

Eight hours' sleep is the golden rule. This is when skin's cell turnover is at its most active, so cells work overtime repairing the damage done in the day. Take advantage with anti-ageing night treatments, such as Olay Regenerist 3 Point Age-Defying Night Cream. It’s not called beauty sleep for nothing.

Keep hydrated

I always make sure that I have a glass of water before bed and try to get 7-8 hours sleep. I also moisturise before bed so that the cream can work it's magic overnight.
