Four golden rules for great hair

Four golden rules for great hair

From cut to colour to product: how to make sure your hair really is your crowning glory

Gone are the days when we had to obey the rules about what our hair ‘should’ look like past a certain age, but there’s no doubt our locks do change as we get older. A lot of women find that it gets drier, for example, while others notice it seeming thinner.

However, with the right products, a great cut and flattering colour, there’s no reason why your hair won’t stay looking luscious and lovely.

The kindest cut

There’s no doubt about it, a good haircut can change your life. You walk into the salon stressed and exhausted and an hour later you’re handing over your credit card and striding confidently through the door ready to take on the world.

Okay, that’s partly down to the magical effects of a bit of me-time pampering and a slick professional blow-dry, but a lot of it is about sharpening up your look, nailing a trend you like, or simply rediscovering your best features with a clever new shape.

Don’t be afraid to shake things up and try something new. You can get advice from your stylist on this (assuming you trust them – and if you don’t,why are you there?). And remember that, as we said, there are no rules. If you want long tresses into your 70s and beyond, then go for it!

The right colour

Great colour can take years of your face, and it’s all about finding what’s right for you. You might decide to embrace your grey, colour your hair at home or go the salon.

If you do opt to have your colour done professionally, it’s best to avoid single-process colour treatments as they tend to look too severe Add soft highlights or lowlights to break up your hair instead.

Whatever hair colour you’re going for – whether you’re considering the lightest blonde or the darkest brunette – the simplest way to choose colour that works is to look at the tones in your skin and see what complements. Again, your stylist will be able to offer advice.

Great products

The Pantene Expert Collection Age Defy range is specially formulated with active anti-ageing ingredients that help to reduce the signs of hair ageing. It targets thinning, unruly greys, coarseness and split ends and leaves hair looking stronger, glossier and more youthful.

Hair ‘rest’ days

The biggest favour you can do for your hair is to let it dry naturally sometimes, as nothing encourages snapping, frizzing and split ends more than a daily dose of harsh heat.

Getting a treatment

Annie Grannie 27/03/2018

Although it will add about £15 to £20 to your hair bill, it is well worth getting a salon treatment which takes about 10 mins. Your hair will look and feel like silk. Regards Annie Grannie

In order 2 get really shiny hair I condition then shampoo again (only a 20p size amount) as doing this gets rid of all the leftover conditioner which causes dullness

Long shiny hair

In the past I have always let my hair dry naturally but now I'm working I don't have time especially in the mornings! So what I do is wash my hair the night before & let it dry naturally then plate it into a bun style so it's nice & wavey the next day!
