Bad breath? How to keep things fresh between you

What are the causes of bad breath and how can you prevent it?

Imagine if you started noticing people moving further back when you talked to them… or your other half turning his cheek when you went to plant a kiss. Mortifying, right? Yet we all have bad breath from time to time, and an estimated one in four people suffer persistently.

How do I know if I’ve got bad breath?

If you’re worried your breath might be less than sweet, the simplest way to find out is to ask a really good friend to be scrupulously honest with you. If the thought of doing that appalls you, trying licking the inside of your wrist and then sniffing. Chances are, if it doesn’t smell good, neither does your breath.

The most common cause of bad breath

Often a problem with bad breath can be fixed by looking at your oral hygiene routine. (You need to make sure that food particles aren’t building up and promoting bacterial growth.) Other causes of bad breath

Okay, so you’ve established your oral hygiene is excellent and that you don’t have any problems with your teeth and gums, but you still think your breath is less-than-lovely. Here’s a list of the usual suspects: Eating certain foods: Onions, garlic, spicy foods, coffee… some lovely things aren’t so lovely on the breath. Not drinking enough water: Dr Okoye warns, “You are more likely to get bad breath if dehydrated, not a great way to make new friends. Drinking a lot of alcohol
